Alligator vs. Crocodile: Spotting the Difference
The easiest way to tell them apart is the snout. Alligators have a broad, U-shaped snout (like a shovel), while crocodiles have a narrow, V-shaped snout. When an alligator closes its mouth, you only see the top teeth. When a crocodile closes its mouth, you see a jagged, toothy grin with both top and bottom teeth visible—specifically the large fourth tooth on the lower jaw. Crocodiles are also generally more aggressive and agile than their American cousins.
